PHASE II OF PROJECT

The essential program of phase II will consist of an extension of the existing building and the creation of large nursery and also 6 single bed rooms. The number of beds will then be :

We are going to develop the department of gynecology in the following areas :

The Holy Family Hospital has 2 delivery rooms :

We had, on several occasions, 4 women in labors imultaneously even in the first month of operation, with only 3 delivery beds available.

An extension of the delivery suite with 2 more delivery tables, is vital. Also a second operating room will be added for gynecological operations permiting the first one to remain available for emergency cesarian sections. ( 12 % of the total deliveries ).

This second phase will also permit us to create clinics, installed in the surrounding villages of the Bethlehem district. The midwives will undertake out patient clinics, twice a week, for preventive medicine purposes.

Phase II was completed in 1996. This increased the unit to 37 maternity beds with two operating rooms, 5 delivery rooms and a neonatal unit. The neonatal unit contained 4 intermediate and 2 intensive care beds.

The cost of these renovations was largely met with grants from the European Union. Some of the equipment was provided by donations -Notably The PAlm Beach Group.
