RELATIONS WITH THE OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN THE REGION

The relationship of our hospital, as it is a maternity unit, will be mainly with the Caritas Baby Hospitalin Bethlehem. A suggestion has been made to stare equipment andstaff

between both hospitals. It has also been proposed to include a midwife in the Caritas Team which is involved in preventivepediatric medicine in the surrounding villages. The purpose of supplying this midwife would be to educate and screen thefemale population in these villages.

The attitude of the other hospitals around us is very positive and there is without any doubt close cooperation. The Hussein Hospital has been very helpful and offered us the use of their blood bank. We will be able to refer our intensive care, neonatal cases and other cases that need specialized care to the Caritas Baby Hospital and to the Makassed IslamicHospital in Jerusalem.

On the other hand, the Bethlehem university and theCaritas Baby Hospital have asked us to take their student nurses for training purposes . Furthermore, it would be possible, in the future, to collaborate with The Bethlehem University in the running of a school for midwives.

Although in many cases the standard of local staff is sufficient, there is a shortage of certain staff e.g. anesthetists, midwives, fully qualified pediatric nurses etc.

It is to be noted that UNRWA has shown great interest in the Holy Family Maternity Hospital and have signed an agreement with the hospital for all their medium and high risk maternity cases South of Jerusalem.
